The photo editing website Picnik closed and I sighed. I had been using this site to make my blog collage headers and buttons. No more Picnik. Did that mean no more headers and blog buttons?

I followed Picnic over to Google+ hoping to find all the creative features had moved too. But alas! Some of the old features are there but not collage.

Today I made a great discovery. I am so excited… I found PicMonkey...

A dynamic duo became a small dynamic team. And the world's friendliest photo editor got a chance to start again. If you loved Picnik, PicMonkey is back in town and better than ever. It's faster, more powerful, and easier to use. It's the real deal you already know, plus 78% more monkey.

In many ways, it is even better than Picnik. There is the usual photo editing function plus collage and more.

One of the extra features can be found in the collage section... a template for making Facebook cover photos. Here are a few covers I quickly put together:

I could use these two on my personal wall.

This one would be good for my Sue Elvis Writes Facebook page

and this one is for Thomas and the Stories of Grief, Love and Hope Facebook page.

If you’d like to make your own cover:
  • Go to PicMonkey
  • Click on ‘Make a Collage’
  • Upload some photos from your computer
  • Click on the template symbol and choose ‘FB Cover’
  • Choose one of the layout templates
  • Place photos in the template. The number and size of the photos can be adjusted as you are arranging them. Extra cells can be added, existing ones deleted and cell boundaries moved
  • Click on the ‘palette’ symbol to adjust the spacing and background colour
It's easy and it's free

If you are on Facebook and haven't seen my Sue Elvis Writes FB page, please visit.  If you click the like button I will smile!

  1. Thanx Sue. I'll try the links - especially your FaceBook one.

I hope this isn't as difficult as ToonDoo. That was too challenging for me.

    God bless.

    1. Victor,

I appreciate your support and would love you to 'like' my FB page. Thank you!

If you ever need a header or blog button, I am willing to make it for you. I could make buttons for all your books. Maybe a header could combine these images. Anyway, something to think about!

      God bless.

    2. Thanx Sue. I like the button you made at the top right which links to my Blog. A similar button which links to my website page where my books are available would be wonderful.

I have to be careful though. I've just e-mailed Vicky (copy to you) about the cartoon favor, and now I ask you for a button favor.

That's extra prayers for both of you today.

I've been on your FB page and "liked" a number of buttons. Didn't show up if it registered or not.

      God bless.

    3. Victor,

Ask for as many favours as you'd like. I like to help as I know you do too!

It will be easy to make such a button, a matter of minutes. Email me with some design ideas: colour, words, image? I will then start creating!

Thank you for liking my FB page. Yes, it did show up! I am smiling as I promised.

      Thank you for the prayers!

      God bless.

    4. Ha ... Sue, I'm laughing because I've just written to Vicky (copied to you) about original creativity.

As you'll read from the e-mail, I'd rather leave the design, colour, words, image and creativity to you. You're the expert; not me.

I'm certain I'll love the button you design.

      Extra prayers in advance.

      God bless.

    5. Victor,

I will see what I can do! Thank you for the prayers.

    1. Colleen,

I think the collage features were added to the Picmonkey site fairly recently. I will watch out for your new FB covers!

      God bless

  3. The photos look lovely. I must give it a go for my blog. Would it work for that? Facebook and I never became close friends.

Thank you for sharing the info:-)

    1. Vicky,

You might have to adjust the size of the cover collage to fit your blog but it would work. There's also other collage templates that could be used. Take a look! I made another blog collage header last night using only the features at Picmonkey. It was very easy and looks good. I'll post a picture later when I get home. I'm sitting outside Goulburn Airport where Immy is taking an Open Uni exam. Funny place for an exam!

    2. Ah, you have your Xoom! Life will never be the same, again - you can stay connected wherever you are and whatever you're doing. Is it illegal to blog while driving?

    3. Vicky,

I too find Facebook difficult to negotiate. Too many buttons to click. One minute I'm on my site, then on my wall, then on a newsfeed, then on someone else's page altogether.

I un-friended myself and now I can't find myself anymore. I don't know if I'm on Facebook or whether I'm a figment of some programmer's imagination.

      God bless.

    4. Vicky,

You were right! I was using my Xoom. I had to wait for 2 hrs and 20 mins and in that time I did a lot of blogging, writing, browsing, reading... My knitting didn't even come out of my bag!

  4. Victor,

I was put off Facebook when I considered that my computer might start to determine my self-worth based upon how many strangers I could persuade to become 'friends' with me. I like having a small number of 'real' blogging friends. Of course, this is only my experience - not a criticism of people who enjoy FB:-)

Sue, is this cheeky, chatting on your blog? How does 'Sue Elvis, Victor and Vicky Writes' sound?;-)

    1. Vicky,

Carry on chatting... I don't mind!

I've been on FB twice. The first time I didn't find it a worthwhile experience but this time, I have changed my mind. I have made friends with people from all over the world and, because we make an effort to get to know each other, I can say that most of the people on my friends' list are actually friends. I like the networking side of FB. It is a way for me to share with fellow grief support workers, homeschoolers, bloggers... I guess FB means different things to different people. It all depends on their expectations and how they use it.

I've had some good chats with Victor on FB!! Come back, Vicky and join us!

    2. Sue,

Your reply was very gracious- I was really asking for an argument with that comment, wasn't I?! I don't think I can afford to spend any more time on the computer but it is tempting!:-):-)

    3. Vicky,

I wouldn't argue with you, Vicky! I love you too much. Your comment was just an opening for a good conversation. I understand what you mean about too much time on the computer. Probably time I turned mine off and went to bed!
